Powder Coating is a type of coating applied as a free flowing dry powder. The coating is applied electrostatically and then cured under heat to allow it to flow and form a smooth durable surface.
It is recommended for use on exterior elements where high resistance to weathering is required. The powder coating process involves three basic steps;
During pre treatment any oil, dirt or greases are removed. This can be done by a variety of chemical or mechanical methods. Next the powder coating is applied to the material using an electro static gun; the gun imparts a positive electric charge on the powder which is then sprayed towards the work piece.
The coated items are then placed in an oven to cure, here the powder melts and flows out to form the desired finish.
